Minister

Reverend Roger Kett

The congregation of Red Deer Lake United Church has voted overwhelmingly in favour of extending a call to the Reverend Roger Kett. We are confident that this call will receive the approval of Calgary Presbytery and Alberta and Northwest Conference. Roger will begin his ministry here effective July 1, 2009. He comes to us from the Oyen-Cereal pastoral charge in Coronation Presbytery, where he has served for the past 13 years.

The congregation also extended a strong vote of thanks to everyone who helped prepare for this call, especially the members of Joint Search Committee and the Joint Needs Assessment Committee. The call of a new minister completes the last part of the work of bringing Midlands and Red Deer Lake United Churches together. A new chapter now begins..

Sunday School & Youth Leader

Carma Claydon

Carma is a long-time member of Red Deer Lake United Church. She has been involved with the Youth Group for several years and has recently taken on the task of Youth Leader. As Youth Leader, Carma meets with the Junior and Senior Youth Groups on Sunday mornings and arranges fun, social events monthly.

Carma is also Sunday School Leader. As such, she selects the cirriculum and scheduling of the teachers and assistants for each class: 3-5 yrs, 6-8 yrs and 9-11 yrs.

Music Director

Lisa Fernandes

While still in high school she was well on her way in her musical training. She worked hard to pass her Grade 10 level in piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music. Then, after secondary school she was drawn to more advanced music training at the University of Alberta. In 1998, Lisa won her Bachelor Degree in music (voice) and went on to receive her Masters in voice in 2000.

The Powell River Music Academy quickly recognized her musical ability and she moved to the Coast to head the Academy’s Vocal Department. She then accepted a position as Music Director and Conductor of the Powell River United Church.

She has performed on many occasions over these few years both as a soloist and as a choral member in a number of very challenging opera roles and classical vocal recitals.
