Music Director and Conductor: Lisa Fernandes 

Lisa Fernandes was born in Edmonton, Alberta and began her study of music at a very early age, studying piano since the age of 6. Lisa began performing as a vocal and piano soloist at her church in Edmonton then later on in the Kiwanis Music Festival and other local and national competitions. Lisa graduated from the University of Alberta with a Masters Degree in Music, majoring in Voice performance. While in Edmonton she had the privilege of performing with one of the few professional choirs in Canada known as "Pro Coro Canada". 

Lisa has performed as a vocal soloist in Austria, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Holland, and the Czech Republic. 2 years ago, Lisa moved from Powell River, where she was the Head of the Voice department at the Academy of Music, the Conductor of several Academy Girls Choirs, and the Powell River United Church choral director. Since 2005, Lisa has been the Music Director and Pianist for Midlands and Red Deer Lake United Churches. Currently Lisa lives in Acadia with her husband Tony and is the Vocal Coach for the Cantare Children’s choir and as well has a private music studio of her own. 

Accompanist: Kathy McMullen

As an Alberta-born girl, Kathy McMullen, studied hymn playing and church music at the Canadian Nazarene College in their general studies program. In 1996, Kathy received her Grade 10 certificate from the Royal Conservatory of Music with honours. She has experience playing as a church pianist for three different Nazarene churches and assistant at another. As pianist, Kathy played for congregational singing, for choirs, duets with an organist and for special music. Kathy currently teaches piano in her home studio and at Allegro Music in Calgary. She has two married wonderful daughters and three wonderful grandchildren. Kathy enjoys reading, gardening, crocheting and entertaining friends in her home. She is pleased to be joining us at Red Deer Lake United Church in our music program.

RDLUC Band

Do you play a musical instrument? Are you interested in sharing your musical talent with the congregation? The RDLUC Band is seeking new members to occasionally perform in church and at church functions. All skill levels welcome! If you are interested, please contact Neil Vivian.

Cantata Choir 

Director: Lisa Fernandes
Accompanist: Kathy McMullen

A Cantata is a staged musical with choir, youth singers, actors and musicians. Performances will be at Christmas and Easter with accompaniment of piano and/or small band.

Next production: Christmas Cantata 2010. Practices will begin in the Fall of 2010, Thursday evenings at 7pm.

Cantata Support: Stage Designer, Costume Designer, Make-up Artist, Multi-media Director, experienced Bass player, and a Stage Director.

Regular Music Programs

Sunday Adult Choir

The Sunday Adult Choir includes 25-35 singers. All are welcome! Each Sunday, the Adult Choir lead in hymn singing and also performs a new anthem. Members gain musicianship skills (singing, vocal technique, ear training, literacy, theory, part work, diction, language skills, memory) and learn concepts about music (melody, rhythm, harmony, timbre, dynamics, form, tempo) and a variety of styles from traditional to contemporary to gospel. Join us in rehearsal on Thursday evenings from 7:00-9:00pm beginning August 27, 2009. Attendance commitment required. No audition necessary. For more information, contact Lisa Fernandes.

A Cappella Chamber Choir

A choir of about 8 singers. If you like to work at some challenging exciting repertoire and are a good sight reader, well this is the choir for you. For more information, contact Lisa Fernandes.

WWJD Singers (ages 6-11)

Conductor: Cathy Thomsen

The children meet once a week after the Sunday service to practice, and they will perform several times a year.  Choir practice will begin in September (date to be announced) in the Sanctuary (11:45am to 12:30pm).  For more information, contact Lisa Fernandes or Cathy Thomsen.

Senior Choir Practice Music

As part of the music program, praise song practice music will be made available to choir members. Choir members will need to login to the website in order to access the music.
